Lawrence
Barrus, has been recognized for outstanding service by the
2003 Chatham County Outstanding Volunteer Service Awards Program
of the Volunteer Center of the United Way of Chatham County.
On September 15th, Larry and 16 others were honored by the
Chatham County Commissioners at a presentation ceremony followed
by a public reception, for which Carolina Meadows contributed
refreshments.
Larry
was cited for his "total and tireless dedication to provide
a better quality of life for all Carolina Meadows residents
with temporary special needs," particularly through the
innovative Meadows Assistance Program (MAP) and Care Team.
For
Larry, this is a well-deserved recognition.
In
addition, the University of Sioux Falls Alumni Association
is honoring Don Hamm with its distinguished alumnus award,
based on his "humanitarian values and noteworthy achievements
in leadership and creativity," as the citation states.
Don
will travel to Sioux Falls, SD, to accept the Award on Friday,
October 3rd.
Don
has been prominent in our local news recently since he was
among the recipients of the 2002 Chatham County Outstanding
Volunteer Award and was the recipient of the 2003 North Carolina
Association of Non-profit Homes for the Ageing (NCANPHA) Award
for Social Service.
All
of us, but particularly those who have been helped and cheered
over the years by Don's work as coordinator of the Carolina
Meadows Health Center Volunteer Auxiliary and of the community
HIV-AIDS Support Group, will want to congratulate him on this
latest recognition of his outstanding contributions.
