Meadows Starts New Program
What is CLEO?
Who is Sweet-Pea? Bogey? Woody ?
Chapel

.. Community Life Enrichment Options, CLEO, is an
ongoing process at Carolina Meadows, to make our Health Center
more homelike and community-oriented, and
less of the traditional medical model. CLEO empowers the staff
in smaller work teams and resident oriented neighborhoods.
It uses changes in décor, furnishings and actual living
spaces that incorporates plants, animals and children in a
variety of cultural and social activities we all enjoy in
our daily lives. In addition through its volunteer component,
it reaches out and touches the lives of all our residents.
There
is a lot of activity at Carolina Meadows as we start the CLEO
process. Staff and residents are on various committees such
as; enrichment, plants, animals, (dogs, cats, and fish) volunteer,
and organization and culture.
The
Animal Committee under the leadership of Laurie Ray, Social
Worker at Carolina Meadows, has been successful in finding
a wonderful dog called Sweet Pea, who will be our first resident
dog. She is a Golden Retriever, who was chosen, for her gentle
disposition. She has a dog cottage created by Coleman Grant,
who works in Carolina Meadows Physical Plant. It is a not
a mere doghouse but a masterpiece of construction. "This is
the first dog designer show house I have ever seen", said
a Carolina Meadows resident when it was unveiled recently.
"Who said it was a dogs life?" another resident commented.
SweetPea
has been joined by Bogey and Woody, gorgeous 3 year old, long
haired cats, beige /buff in color. They are settling in well
with lots of cat toys and plenty of attention.
Other
committees are working hard to bring plants, new cultural
activities, and improved décor to the Health Center.
