En route home from a Florida visit, Marge and Lew Miles stopped off in Orlando, Fl to attend a conference of the 16-year-old Society of Pediatric Nurses, and organization of which Marge was the founding president.

   During a luncheon, awards were announced from the podium. The last announcement was made by SPN’s incoming president. She said the next award was a first for the organization – the Margaret S. Miles Service Award, and its first recipient was Marrgaret S. Miles. At this point, all of the 500 attending members rose to give Miles a standing ovation.

   The plaque on the award reads: “In recognition of her outstanding leadership and contributions to the field of pediatric nursing.” While Miles is officially retired from the faculty of the UNC School of Nursing, she is still involved in research and student mentoring.
