Horton Middle School Students partner with Carolina Meadows to create quilts for Habitat for Humanity

Carolina Meadows, an exceptional continuing care retirement community in Chatham County is partnering with middle school students to provide quilts for Habitat for Humanity. The Horton Middle School 8th grade Honors Language Arts class is working on a project to make quilts for Habitat for Humanity families. The idea came to life through the teacher, Ellen Hadley, who has received significant support from the school. Ms. Hadley is working with a Chatham Habitat representative to come to the school to receive the first quilt on December 20 from 9:00-10:00 am. Four other quilts will be presented prior to being delivered to quilters for finishing.

Financial support was provided by Carolina Meadows to pay for supplies. Mrs. Hadley hopes that this will become an annual event for the school. Other teachers have joined in. The 8th grade Honors Algebra teacher, for example, is having a contest to have students design quilt squares using certain math principals. The winner will be announced at the school assembly.
