Carolina
Meadows' Residents' Association Present Scholarships to Staff
In
2000 the Residents Association launched a scholarship
program available to the employees of Carolina Meadows. The
objective is to further the education of the employees and
encourage their continuance of employment at Carolina Meadows.
Each
applicant must submit an essay explaining how the experience
of working at Carolina Meadows has affected his or her views
of the elderly, contributed to his or her education and helped
to pursue a career goal. Each applicants supervisor
is requested to submit a written confidential recommendation
on the applicants behalf.
This
year we had nine employees submitted applications for the
$1000 scholarships. The Executive Committee of the Residents
Association carefully evaluated each application. This year
five scholarships were awarded, three funded by the Residents
Association, one by the Memorial and Gift Fund and a gracious
voluntary gift from a long-time resident.
Those
receiving the scholarships were as follows: Angel Dennison,
assistant to Kevin McLeod in the Financial Department, soon
to be studying at the UNC School of Public Health to become
a Health Care Administrator; Coleman Grant, a painter in the
Physical Plant Department, pursuing art and design degrees
at Piedmont Community College; Stacey Hayes, employed as a
nursing assistant, studying for an associate degree in Nursing;
Lance Long working in the grounds department, attending Alamance
Community College, studying to become a Landscaper II at Carolina
Meadows and Sharnetta Seymour, Communications Coordinator
at Carolina Meadows, responsible for administering all telephones
and computers for the administrative staff and in-house TV.
She has completed her "A+" computer technician certification
and is pursuing her Associates degree in information
systems in computers.
The
scholarships will be presented at the next Resident Association
meeting on April 12.
Congratulations
to them all.
