Day Celebrations
Reduce, Re-Use and Recycle

..Earth Day Celebrations at Carolina Meadows will
take place on Tuesday, April 24, in the Auditorium. After
a campus bird-walk at 8:00am, the Recycling Committee will
host talk by expert re-cycler, Richard Sloane of the National
Institute of Environmental Health (NIEHS), recently featured
in the Herald Sun. His presentation, at 10:45 am in
the Auditorium, will focus on the best techniques known at
present to Reduce, Re-Use and Recycle all kinds of materials.
The aim is to highlight problems surrounding landfills, leachate,
and to discuss litigation about land use.
Representatives
from other CCRCs, Carol Woods, The Forest at Duke, Windsor
Point and possibly the newly planned retirement community
at Meadowmont, The Cedars, have been invited and many plan
to attend.
Muriel
Williman, Chatham County Recycling Coordinator has been invited
to talk about what Chatham County is doing, as well as representatives
from Orange and Durham Counties.
Jane
Sharp, newly tapped Recycling Coordinator at Carolina Meadows
says, " In view of the growing population of active retirees,
the political and public clout of these energetic seniors
can be used to advocate for recycling commitment from everyone."
Joe
Zannini, Director of Carolina Meadows Physical Plant and Miriam
Murdock, outgoing Recycling Coordinator for Carolina Meadows,
the original recycler have worked together for several years
to promote positive attitudes towards environmental uses of
our natural resources.
