Carolina Meadows is governed and managed by a volunteer, community-based, Board of Directors. There are 15 voting members plus 2 ex-officio non-voting positions. A partner in the Pittsboro law firm of Bradshaw & Robinson, Mr. Robinson’s areas of practice are development and zoning, real estate, wills, probate, estate administration, civil litigation, and bankruptcy. Mr. Robinson was born in Madrid, Spain, and is fluent in Spanish. He received from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, his B.A. in 1985 and his J.D. in 1989. Mr. Robinson and his law partner, Patrick Bradshaw, have served on the boards of numerous Chatham County non-profit organizations and, over the years, have provided pro bono legal services to community-oriented organizations. Mr. Robinson is currently vice-president of the 15-B Judicial District Bar Association (Orange and Chatham Counties).

He practices internal medicine and has special interest in geriatric care. Dr. Miller graduated from UNC Medical School and completed his residency training in Chapel Hill. He is a long term resident of Chatham County.

As Senior Vice President, he is in charge of commercial and real estate lending in the Chapel Hill/Orange/Chatham area. A native Chapel Hillian, Mr. Pope graduated from Appalachian State University in 1980 with a BS in Business Administration.

Born in Canada and now a U.S. citizen, Mr. Norman received a B.S. from the University of Manitoba and a J.D. from St. John’s University (New York). Most of his business career was spent with Johnson & Johnson (J&J), starting as a salesman in a Canadian subsidiary and progressing through various management and executive responsibilities in Canada and the United States to membership on the Board of Directors of J&J. He served on the company’s Executive Committee as chairman of two domestic and seven foreign subsidiaries and also had responsibility for investigating business opportunities in Hungary, Poland, and Yugoslavia. After retiring from J&J he practiced law in New Jersey and served as president of Overlook Hospital Foundation in Summit, NJ. Mr. Norman was also a trustee of The Pingry School in New Jersey and a director of the British Schools and Universities Foundation in New York. At Carolina Meadows he is currently a member of the Board Finance Committee and the Resident Health Advisory Committee; he has been a chairman of the Residents Building and Grounds Committee and a member of the Residents Budget and Finance Committee.

Mr. Bovarnick holds two degrees from Harvard - a BA in Economics and an MBA from its graduate business school. In a forty-year business career, his field of work was human resources management, and his two principal employers were Lone Star Cement, Inc., where he was Vice President of Administration, and ORC Worldwide, an international management and human resources consulting firm, where he was also Vice President. Since his retirement in 1988, Mr. Bovarnick has been an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association and the National Association of Security Dealers, a mediator of small claims and family/neighborhood disputes, a crisis hotline counselor, an AARP management trainer, and a counselor for the US Small Business Association. At Carolina Meadows he has been Chairman of the Residents Budget and Finance Committee and the Residents Remembrance and Gift Fund Committee, moderator of a weekly current events discussion group, and also host of an annual full-day foreign affairs symposium.

He has been in the design and construction industry for 30 years, the past 11 with Weaver Cooke Construction service as Senior Vice President for Client Services. Mr. Weaver and his wife Carla are residents of Greensboro and are active in the community. After earning degrees in English Literature and Law at Duke University, Mr. Hardin served in the US Army Counter Intelligence Corps, practiced law in Birmingham, AL, taught law at Duke, then served as president of Wofford College, Southern Methodist University, and Drew University. From 1988 to 1995, he served as Chancellor and Professor of Law at UNC-CH. In 1997 he served as Interim President of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Born in the UK and now a US citizen, Ms. Hutchinson received a BA in Social Studies from the University of Hull. In the UK she worked as a social worker for a local authority and for the National Health Service. Since coming to the States in 1982 Ms Hutchinson has worked with the elderly in numerous capacities, mainly as Marketing Director in several facilities including Carolina Meadows Retirement Community. Active in the community, Ms. Hutchinson represented Carolina Meadows on the board of the Chapel Hill & Carrboro Chamber of Commerce. In 1998 she was President of the Ronald McDonald House in Chapel Hill. Now retired, she is on the board of the Mental Health Association in Orange County and volunteers with other local organizations.

Dr. Klein is a native of Washington, D.C. and earned his M.D. degree at George Washington University in Washington. After internship and two years in the U.S. Air Force (Misawa, Japan), he trained in general surgery and neurosurgery in Boston, Massachusetts and then joined the faculty of the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he practiced and taught pediatric neurosurgery for 35 years. Since retiring to North Carolina, he has continued to pursue his interests in medical teaching and medical ethics. He is currently Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at UNC and Chair of the UNC Hospitals Ethics Committee.

A native North Carolinian and a Chatham County resident for over 25 years, Dr. Price is Assistant Professor, Duke University School of Nursing, and Director of the Duke Family Nurse Practitioner Program. She received her nursing education at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, N.C. (BSN); University of North Carolina School of Nursing (FNP) and School of Public Health (MPH and DrPH); and the University of Washington School of Nursing, Seattle (Postmasters in Developmental Pediatrics). Throughout her career she has been a leader in local and state health policy, serving on numerous Boards and Commission for public benefit and education. A Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, she currently is serves on the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Commission for Health (appointed by the governor); the North Carolina Albert Schweitzer Board of Directors; and the Board of the Orange-Person-Chatham Mental Health Authority. In addition, she is also currently serving as the principal investigator for a US Department of Defense grant that focuses on early detection for prostate cancer.

Mr. Walburn, a graduate of George Williams College and the Divinity School of the University of Chicago, was ordained by the United Church of Christ. Later he studied management at Pace University in New York City. His career includes a pastorate near Chicago and then teaching positions in Hong Kong and Indonesia. After several years in church personnel work, he became the CFO of the United Church Board for World Ministries, the overseas agency for the United Church of Christ, and was responsible for financial, business, and computer services. From 1992 to 1994 he was the Director of Finance for the United Mission to Nepal, a large internationally funded development organization based in Kathmandu. He and his wife Barbara entered Carolina Meadows in 1995.

Mr. Yusko received a B.S Degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1985 and an MBA from the University of Chicago in 1987. He was the Senior Investment Director for the University of Notre Dame, where he joined as the Assistant Investment Officer, in October 1993. From 1998 to 2004 he served as the Chief Investment Officer for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; in 2002 he and his team founded the UNC Management Company to provide comprehensive investment advisory services to the University. In July 2004 Mr. Yusko formed Morgan Creek Capital Management to provide investment advisory services to a wide range of clients based on the University Endowment model of investment management.

Originally from Canada, Dr. Coward moved to the U.S. in 1970 and attended UNC-Greensboro where she earned her BA degree Cum Laude. She received her medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Wake Forest University, in 1988. Dr. Coward completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro and two years of training in Geriatrics at the University of Colorado Health Science Center. She was named Director of the Section on Geriatrics and Medical Director of the Continuing Care Center at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Coward later became Medical Director at a nursing home outside of Pittsburgh and Director of the Geriatric Fellowship at Shadyside Hospital. She moved to Chapel Hill in 2000 and is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics and serves as Medical Director of the Geriatric Evaluation Clinic at UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Coward enjoys teaching Geriatric Evaluation at the Carolina Meadows Clinic and has a special interest in Osteoporosis.

A graduate of Oberlin College for a BA she also has an MA in anthropology from the University of Chicago, and an MAT from University of California Berkeley. Mrs. Fallers worked in the Education field all her professional life, first as teacher and then as a University administrator. She retired in 1995 from her position as Associate Provost at the University of Chicago. From 1949 to 1974 she was married to an anthropologist and spent time on his fieldwork posts in Uganda (7 years) and Turkey (3 years). When her husband died in 1974, she continued in education work until her retirement. Since retirement, she has worked in Adult Literacy, tutoring, and other volunteer fields. In 1999, she married John Parry and joined him at Carolina Meadows. At Carolina Meadows she has helped with the Meadowwood Camp, played ping pong and been on the Community Outreach Volunteers Committee, the Budget and Finance Committee, and is currently the President of the Residents Association.

Dr. Hoole graduated from Medical University of South Carolina and came to UNC in 1972 after a fellowship of nephrology and a residency in internal medicine. He began practice in general medicine and community medicine, but over the years gradually shifted to an almost exclusive practice in geriatrics. He currently teaches physical assessment as well as serves as the Associate Dean for Admissions in the School of Medicine. He has been instrumental in the nurse practitioner movement and co-authored the book Patient Care Guidelines for Nurse Practitioners; he also co-edited the book Manual of Clinical Problems in Adult Ambulatory Care.

Mr. McLeod has served as the Executive Director of Carolina Meadows since January 2006. He served as Carolina Meadows’ Chief Financial Officer from 1998 to January 2006. Prior to joining Carolina Meadows, he was the Chief Financial Officer at Friends Home, Inc. from 1992 to 1998. He worked in public accounting with the national CPA firm of BDO Seidman from 1990 to 1992 and Bernard Robinson & Co, LLP, CPA’s from 1987 to 1990. Mr. McLeod currently serves as a financial and administrative surveyor with CARF-CCAC, the national accrediting organization for CCRC's. He currently serves as Board Member and has served as Treasurer of the North Carolina Association of Non-Profit Homes for the Aged. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and he completed his accounting coursework at North Carolina State University. He is a member of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
